Jashpur to Get ₹20.53-Crore Archery Academy as NTPC and District Administration Ink Pact

Raipur/ The quiet hills of Jashpur are set to echo with the thrum of bowstrings. In a significant move for sports development, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai today witnessed the signing of an agreement between the Jashpur district administration and NTPC Limited to establish a state-of-the-art Archery Academy at Sanna Pandarapath in Bagicha block.

The ₹20.53-crore project, to be executed under NTPC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, will train a new generation of archers from tribal and rural communities. Collector Rohit Vyas and Bilash Mohanty, NTPC’s Additional General Manager (Human Resources), were present at the signing ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s camp office in Bagiya.

“This initiative will open new doors for Chhattisgarh’s youth,” said Sai, lauding NTPC’s contribution. “Jashpur has immense potential in archery, and this academy will give our young athletes the platform, training, and facilities to shine at the national and international level.”

He linked the move to India’s bid for hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, saying, “We want to see Chhattisgarh’s players on India’s Olympic team—winning medals, making the state and the nation proud. That vision begins with institutions like this.”

Chief Minister Shri Sai reiterated the state’s incentive policy for Olympic medalists — ₹3 crore for gold, ₹2 crore for silver, and ₹1 crore for bronze — and noted that the Rajya Khel Alankaran has been revived to recognize exceptional talent. He added that new Khelo India training hubs are being launched, with a focus on developing sports infrastructure in tribal regions.

“Archery is not new to us, it is woven into India’s cultural and mythological legacy,” Sai said, citing Mahabharata and Ramayana. “Now, we must blend that timeless skill with modern science and coaching to craft world-class archers.”

Spanning 10.27 acres, the Sanna Pandarapath academy will include an outdoor archery range, athlete hostels, staff quarters, a skills development center, organic nursery, herbal plantation, library, medical facility, and training grounds — a complete ecosystem to nurture talent and discipline under one roof.
