Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai praises field teams, seeks faster progress in urban areas

Raipur/ Preparations for Census 2027 are progressing rapidly across Chhattisgarh, with more than 60 percent of the house-listing work already completed across the state.

According to the latest official progress report, 29,602 out of 48,742 House Listing Blocks (HLBs) have been completed so far, taking the overall progress to 60.73 per cent. The work is being carried out through digital monitoring and verification systems across districts and urban local bodies.

*Accurate Census key to targeted welfare delivery: Chief Minister*

Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai expressed satisfaction over the progress and congratulated enumerators and district administrations, particularly the Gauurela-Pendra-Marwahi (GPM) district administration, which achieved 100 per cent completion.

He said accurate census data will form the foundation for future development planning, welfare schemes and policy decisions in the state.

“Our government is moving forward with the commitment of good governance and inclusive development. Completing Census 2027 work within timelines through digital technology is commendable,” Chief Minister said.

He also expressed concern over slow progress in several major cities and municipal corporation areas and directed officials to strengthen field-level monitoring and accelerate the work.

*Several districts near finish line, GPM emerges top performer*

Among all districts, tribal-dominated Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi emerged as the top performer by completing all 528 House Listing Blocks. Jashpur followed closely with 99.87 percent completion, while Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki recorded 99.84 percent progress. Bemetara and Mungeli districts also reported near-completion levels at 97.8 percent and 96.52 percent respectively.

Commending the district’s performance and ‘zero pendency’ model, GPM Collector Dr Santosh Kumar Dewangan credited the achievement to coordinated efforts by enumerators, supervisors and the district administration. Despite difficult terrain and tribal-dominated geography, the district adopted a micro-planning approach with daily digital monitoring of every charge number. Soon after the data was synced on the portal at midnight on May 17, we achieved 100 percent completion. We are now fully prepared for the next phase of training and field verification,” he said.

*Major cities struggle to match pace of rural districts*

While rural and remote districts reported strong performance, progress in major urban centres and municipal corporation areas remained significantly slower.

Raigarh Municipal Corporation recorded the lowest progress at 4.65 percent. Industrial township Bhilai Nagar reported only 7.84 percent completion, while Risali stood at 8.33 percent. In the State capital Raipur, only 203 out of 1,964 House Listing Blocks have been completed so far, taking overall progress to 10.34 percent.

However, a major relief for the administration is that the number of “HLBs Not Started” stands at zero in most districts, indicating that field-level teams are fully active across the State. Except for one remaining block in Kabirdham district, work has commenced everywhere.

Senior officials said municipal commissioners and district collectors have been directed to appoint special nodal officers to ensure that all pending “in progress” works are completed at the earliest.
